Chopper

Hosted by Simon

Date 13 November

Score 52.5%

Simon’s theme was Australian and the film he selected was Chopper.  The film tells the intense story of Mark "Chopper" Read, a legendary Australian criminal who wrote his autobiography while serving a jail sentence in prison. He had plenty of time to write! Between the age of 20 - 38 he spent 17 years in prison! He managed to write 15 books including having a go at writing young adult fiction!!

His introduction of the film was comprehensive, with his main source being wikipedia. He admitted to not having screened the film beforehand, which he was duly scorned for, but in fairness, he did seem to research the film quite a bit, including interviewing Australian work colleagues.

Simon went all out on the wine and spent over £20 for the one on the right and £44 for the one on the left. Both were enjoyed by all with mixed opinions as to which one was better.

The nibbles were of a good quality but were largely pate and cheese based and popcorn was provided instead of crisps, which, surprisingly, not many people complained about - only Ian kicked up a fuss.

Andrew clearly had woken up on the wrong side of the bed and really wasn’t impressed by any of what Simon presented - neither film nor food.  But several of us felt Simon really stepped up when it came to chairing, and shaping, the post-film discussion.
